In Leland Jacobs article, "Historical Fiction for
Children", I really loved reading about the significance of children’s
historical fiction. I didn’t really become an avid reader until I got older.
Part of the reason I didn’t really read for pleasure in the elementary grades
was because I wasn’t picking books that drew me in. I feel that if I picked
more historical fiction books, I might have read more as a child. Jacobs points
out how important of a genre historical fiction is for children. It has a romantic
appeal and gives the readers insight on different foods, clothing, customs,
etc. it has themes that grab the reader’s attention. Most of all, Jacobs states
that historical fiction grabs the reader and brings them into another time.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this article and gaining new insight on the genre of
historical fiction!
